I’ve been increasingly aware recently that it is very easy in our lives to be good Christians without being good followers of Christ. It is not hard for us to earn the badge of someone who is a good Christian – they go to church every week, they help out at the right events and the right services, they say the right things and they do the right things.
But does this make us good followers of Christ? Whilst all of those things above are good things to do, it is not our doing these that make us good followers of Jesus. Jesus commands us to drop everything and follow Him, no matter what our situation at the time is. Do we do this? Or do we wait until it fits our calendar? Jesus says we must die to our self. Do we do this, or do we think we do but really we hold back?
Jesus doesn’t want us to be people who merely say the right things and turn up at the right time. He wants us to love Him whole heartedly, with all we have, and to dedicate our lives to Him. Is this how we live for Jesus?
