Francis Schaeffer once said this: “The Christian is the one whose imagination should fly beyond the stars.”
I think that is so true. Creativity is amazing, and I really believe that everyone is creative, their own way. Some people are more obviously creative – artists, musicians, poets, authors – and others are creative in less obvious ways – people who solve problems, who develop proposals, and brainstorm ideas.
The Bible says that man is created in the image of God, and God is the ultimate Creator. There is no greater artwork than the stars in the universe, or a sunset over hills. Being made in the image of God, people are therefore creative. I truly think that when people find their own creativity, they suddenly find a new and unique way to worship God.
For some, that creativity might be obvious. For others, it might be less apparent, but it is there. Whatever it is, however, it is worth harnessing, learning and developing that creativity, cherishing it and making it your own. It is a gift from God, and one that is uniquely yours.
Having started with a Francis Schaeffer quote, I’ll finish with one as well – a quote that reflects the impact our God-given creativity can have on those around us:
“The Christian’s life is to be a thing of truth and also a thing of beauty in the midst of a lost and despairing world.”
